Alamogordo, New Mexico is a friendly city of more than 35,000 people located close to White Sands Missile Range. Students here can also take advantage of great scientific facilities in the area like the New Mexico Museum of Space History that features exhibits ranging from Robert Goddard’s early rocket experiments near Roswell to a very realistic mock-up of the International Space Station. It’s a great place for kids to grow and learn!
Imagine spending the day out at Oliver Lee Memorial State Park. It’s just 12 miles south of town. There you can picnic in a park that rests at the base of the Sacramento Mountains in the Chihuahuan Desert. The country is rugged and breathtaking, the weather is phenomenal and you’ll work up quite an appetite checking out the diverse wildlife that calls the park home.
When you’re ready to call it a day, plan a stop at the famous Sunset Run Restaurant for some real Southwestern Bar-B-Q ribs. Be sure to try their Boneshaker Rib Dinner. They smoke them with two woods, apple and pecan. It’ll put the cap on an already perfect day.
